Congregational since 1828 · On Frederick Street since 1908

There is a seat here for you.

“We seek, in everything we do, to show Christ to the world through loving action.”

Sunday worship, 10.45am 39 Frederick Street, Loughborough LE11 3BH

An open, inclusive church and a busy community centre. Families are fed here, neighbours are welcomed, and nobody is asked to be anyone other than themselves.

A word of welcome

“Whoever you are, whatever you believe, and however long it has been, you will find a welcome here. Come and see.”

We are a small congregation with a large building and an open door. Through the week this place fills with children, neighbours, dancers, learners and friends. On a Sunday we gather to worship, simply and warmly, and there is always room for one more.

Worship and spiritual life

Sundays here are unhurried

Traditional in shape, relaxed in feel. Reverent without being stuffy, with a broad and generous theology, and a genuine welcome whoever you are.

Every Sunday, 10.45am

Morning Worship

A service of about an hour, with hymns, readings, prayers and a sermon. Holy Communion on the second Sunday of the month, and all are welcome at the table.

Organ and grand piano

Music at the heart

Every service is accompanied, week in and week out, by talented organists and a grand piano. If you come for nothing else, come for the singing.

2nd & 4th Tuesday, 12.30pm

Prayer and fellowship

Prayer, a simple meal and good company in the church. We also produce a Prayer Calendar to guide our prayers through the week.

Community life

The busiest days here are not Sundays

Monday to Saturday this building belongs to the town: to children in the holidays, to neighbours who need somewhere warm, to anyone who would rather not eat alone.

A weekday gathering in the hall. When free school meals stop and budgets stretch, we cook; when the winter bites, we put the heating on and the kettle.

Tue & Thu, 11am to 2pm

Grub Club

Food and fun for children and families through most school holidays, for exactly the weeks when free school meals stop.

Wednesdays, 3.30 to 5.30pm

Warm Wednesday Welcome

A genuinely warm room, refreshments and company through the cold months. Term-time, October to April, in the Upper Hall.

2nd Sunday, 11am to 3pm

Community Kitchen

A proper community meal, open to everyone. Good food and good company, no questions asked and no charge.

2nd & 4th Tuesday, 12.30pm

Gather Together

Prayer, a simple meal and fellowship together in the church.

1st, 3rd & 5th Friday, 10.30am

Bible Study

An informal, friendly group working through scripture together in the Blue Room. No prior knowledge assumed, questions positively encouraged.

Formal status held

Church of Sanctuary

We stand with people seeking sanctuary, and support Loughborough's welcome to those who have made their home among us.

Halls and rooms for hire

A building the whole town uses

Dance classes, judo, Brownies, language lessons, a stroke club, counselling. Our halls and rooms are in use most days, and there is space for yours.

Hiring a room here does two things at once: it gives your group a warm, central, step-free home, and every pound goes straight back into keeping this place open for the community.

About us

Nearly two hundred years on the same errand

We have changed buildings, names and denominations. The intention behind it has not moved much.

  1. 1828

We begin as Loughborough Congregational Church, meeting at Ashby Square.

  2. 1908

We move to our present home on the corner of Frederick Street and Heathcoat Street. The building is now Grade II listed.

  3. 1972

The Congregational and Presbyterian churches of England and Wales unite. We become part of the United Reformed Church.

  4. Today

A small, welcoming congregation and a community centre that is busy six days a week. We are registered for same-sex marriage, committed to anti-racism, and hold that everyone is made in God's image and worthy of dignity and welcome.

What we have committed to

Eco Church, Silver Award

We care for God's creation and work to be good stewards of the environment, recognised with the A Rocha Eco Church Silver Award.

Fairtrade Church

We are a Fairtrade Church and seek to only use Fairtrade items in our own catering, and to encourage others in the use of Fairtrade products.

Church of Sanctuary

We hold formal Church of Sanctuary status, standing alongside refugees and people seeking asylum in our town.

Equality Action and Town of Sanctuary

We work with local partners for equality, welcome and cohesion across Loughborough, and through the Council of Faiths, Street Pastors and Christian Aid.
